10 worst blunders in your CV

Your resume has only a few seconds to gain the employer's attention.
Therefore, to stand out from the crowd, your resume should be free of the common errors.

1. Too many personal details
Except from your full name, contact information, including email, phone number and address, you should avoid giving further personal detail in your resume.

2. Unrelated information
You should avoid stating information in your resume that has nothing to do with the job you are applying for.
If you are applying for a software developer position, what sense it would make if you state that you were an arm wrestling champion as one of your accomplishments

3. Highlight on duties, instead of accomplishments
Resumes should primarily have high-impact statements about the job seeker's accomplishments that would sell his qualifications and present him as the best candidate.

4. A loose objective
Avoid making vague statements like "Seeking a challenging position that offers professional growth".
The employers come across such lines probably hundred times a day. Try to say something specific that would serve the employers' need as well as your own.

5. Using cookie-cutter resume templates
Most resumes created from a Microsoft Word template are easily recognizable to employers.
Use a little imagination while writing your resume.

6. Listing references directly on the resume
You shouldn't list specific references directly on your resume. Instead, you must list them on a separate sheet. Even then, references should be given if specifically requested by the employer.

7. Including salary expectations
Never include salary related points in the resume.
It's better to keep it out of your resume, unless the employer asks for it.
If you get a job requirement from a job portal, placement agency or direct recruiter, they may specifically ask your current salary and expected salary.

8. If you were fired from a job...
Stating that you were fired from your earlier job for poor performance or any other fault will not help you getting the job in any way. Yes, if you are asked to explain why you left a job, you need to be truthful.

9. Poorly organized
While writing your resume, you should maintain a proper order of importance.
It's better to put the educational details at the end. If you are a fresh graduate, then only you should highlight it.

10. Typos and Grammatical Errors
A small spelling mistake or grammatical error can cost you the job you are applying for.
Your resume needs to be grammatically perfect otherwise it will create an impression of a careless person in the minds of the employers.

5 resume mistakes that can ruin your career

1. Vague contact details
The most essential for a resume is to have clear contact details mentioning a phone number where potential employers can talk to you directly. There should be a formal and an uncomplicated address - mostly a combination of first and last name. Unclear or vague contact details can mislead an employer and one may loose the opportunity of grabbing the right job.

2. Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes
Spellings and grammatical errors in a resume can reflect a negative impression on the employer. As the employer or the HR head goes through t he profile, these errors can give them a feeling that the candidate is not serious about the position and is lazy. In all likelihood, they would think the candidate is not a responsible person.

3. Overwritten long paragraph's and sentences
Flashy advertisements don't sell products. Rather, effective ads give people the information they need quickly and clearly. Full sentences are quite time consuming in today's hiring world. Therefore, one should make his/her resume short and punchy without much elaboration of sentences.

4. Past failures and health problems
Curriculum vitae is not the place to mention your past failures and health problems. Although not many commit this mistake, some tend to reveal them in their resume. Therefore, it is advisable not to mention these in the resume.

5. A paragraph summarizing your skills
Summarizing your skills is not at all necessary in the resume as it may appear to the employer that you are being superfluous and the resume turns out to be a poorly framed one. It's always good to list them in three to five bullet points. These points should pertain to the type of job you are trying to obtain. You should be able to combine multiple items in one thorough bullet point. Be wise to project those skills that meet your career objectives.

Bank domain test - I

1. Write class for the tree structure and method to calculate cummulative sum.
2. What are the rules for Recursion and its drawback ?
3. Suppose I have 10GB text file having numeric values (one per line), on 64 bit JVM with Linux OS, 2 GB RAM and 240 GB Hard disk.
What is most efficient way to find largest number and 10th largest number ?
Can PriorityQueue be a efficient data structure over array of 10 elements, while finding 10th largest number ?
4. Why methods notify(), wait() are provided in Object class not in thread class ?

Written test
1. A class person is given. Person A treated to be greater than Person B, if age of Person A is more than Person B.
If age is same, then natural sorting of name should be used.
Implement standard 2 methods from collection API to sort person list.
public class Person {
  private String name;
  private int age;
  Person(String name, int age) {
      this.name = name;
      this.age = age;
  }

2. What would be the expected output / error / exception and if any error / exception, how to fix it ?
public class IteratorDemo {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        List list = new ArrayList();
        list.add("XYZ1");
        list.add("XYZ2");
        list.add("XYZ3");
        list.add("XYZ4");

        Iterator iterator = list.iterator();
        for (int index = 0; iterator.hasNext(); index++) {
            String next = iterator.next();
            if(next.equals("XYZ2"))
                list.remove(index);
        }
    }
}

3. Write memory implementation of "AgedCache" as per following interface which "evicts" data that is older than a specified period (5 mins.). Cache should remove keys and data which is older than specified period.
public interface Cache {
    void put(Object key, Object value);
    Object get(Object key);
}

Synchronization should be used.

4. Using java 1.4 or below, without third party lib, implement following interface specification for object pool.
public interface Pool {
    Object unpool();
    void pool(Object o);
    int available();
    int allocated();
    int max();
}

Object pool should be client configured with max number of objects that it manages.

5. Describe when this code will be executed, whether it completes or not ? Give proper reasoning.
Note: Stack depth is not unlimited.
public class Recursion {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        try {
            recurse();
        }
        finally {
            System.out.println("hi");
        }
    }

    static void recurse() {
        try{
            recurse();
        }
        finally{
            recurse();
        }
    }
}
